| Forest defines the Koitor world. Tall hardwood Sal(Shorea robusta) and sacred Mahua (Madhuca indica) are the glory of the forests. Mahua flowers make a strong distilled drink. Palm trees give different varieties of toddy. The dramatic green of Sal leaves is matched only by the Flame of the Forest (Butea frondosa) which lights up the landscape for a brief moment each year.
The forest provides food, drink, cups, plates, building materials, medicines, every need of life. It is the domain of countless spirits residing in every tree, plant or bush. To the Koitor it is as vital as the air they breathe. Nothing less. | | xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx | | |
